Hello!

My name is Micaela but I go as Mica (Mee-Kuh) for short. I am originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, a place with thriving art, cultures and interesting people. With my illustrations, I want the viewer to be submerged in a different reality, be able to empathize with the stories that I tell, and hopefully steal a smile or two. I truly believe that art is a language that connects us all and a great tool to touch one's heart.

My passion for art has brought me from one country to the other, work for prestigious clients such as the Smithsonian American Art Museum and for causes that are aligned with my views.

Work Experience

April 2019:
Davis Project for Peace - El Salvador

March 2021:
Smithsonian American Art Museum

September 2021:
Meanwhile! Comic

Co-wrote and received the Davis Project for Peace grant of $10.000 called "Sculpting for Peace" in El Salvador in my freshmen year of college. With the funds, we gave sculpting workshops, trips to art museums, drawing and painting classes and more in two schools, benefiting more than 80 children, and a kiln was donated to one of the schools for the prosperity of the project. The objective was to offer a safe place of expression to children, away from systemic and organized gang violence.

I was one out of 10 selected students to work for the first project between Ringling College of Art and Design and the Smithsonian American Art Museum. This project was about bringing representation to women artists who, because of their gender, were forgotten in art history. I had the honor of illustrating the story of Corita Kent, a brave artist who defied not only the church but society itself, to fight for world peace with her art in the 60's.

Participated in the 21st issue of the Meanwhile! comic, created by Ringling illustration students and faculty. Here I let my imagination flow and created a two-page comic that is colorful and has a little twist in its story.

May 2022:
First Illustrated Book

The finalization of my thesis book, Kates Tsinha (Star Woman). For this book, I researched about indigenous peoples in Argentina and met with Wichí writer Osvaldo, to work together. We created one of the first illustrated books written by and for Wichí people, an indigenous group from the north of Argentina. This is a breakthrough in published works, since this book steps out of the hegemonic white narrative and is not meant to be fully understood by western society, with symbols, plants, animals, words and gods that are for Wichí people.
